Cloud Native London 2019 Preparations

My week ahead (23/09/2019 to 27/09/2019):

This week I’ll be travelling to London to attend a tech conference called Cloud Native London 2019. Cloud Native London is a 3 day event which was established to discuss all things Cloud related.

Cloud Native London is an event I’ve been looking forward to attending for the the past 5 months, since discovering a meetup event called “Cloud Native Wales” in my hometown (Cardiff if you didn’t know already).

In this blog post I want to discuss my plans for the week and what I hope to get out of attending the event.

For those of you who follow this blog, or know me in real life, you’ll know that I have a keen interest in cloud, automation, scaling & distributed computing, dev-ops practises, open source, etc… in addition to the software development practises I use at work. I feel like it’s important to stay on top of developments in the industry to keep my skills fresh and active. Personally, I find one of the best ways of exploring new technologies is to attend events to learn how different organisations are implementing and measuring the success of different systems & methodologies. This allows you to focus on what other people are testing out, rather than having to constantly research technologies yourself, saving you a tremendous amount of time in the long run.

Cloud Native London is a 3 day event where some of the greatest experts in the I.T field gather together to discuss developments in Clouds, Containers, Virtualisation, and how different technologies can be implemented for different business needs. One such technology that’s gaining huge popularity in recent years is Kubernetes. In my opinion, Sarah Wells of Financial times is the best public speaker in the field and is an early adpopter of Kubernetes. Here’s a video of her keynote at KubeCon in 2018, just in case you’re intererested in watching it:

In preparation for this event, I want to make others aware of the work I’m doing with Cloud technologies (Docker development etc.) and hope to make some valuable connections in the industry and get my name known for future business opportunities. Unfortunately, I didn’t realise until today that I’ve run out of business cards, so handing them out at Cloud Native London isn’t going to happen.

Tickets for the event are completely sold out, meaning there will hopefully be plenty of like-minded people there to connect with and have a good time with.

Tracks I’m looking forward to

“Cloud Native Patterns” and “Learning To Be Successful at “Being Wrong” In The Cloud” are two of the tracks I’m looking forward to the most out of the entire of the event. I’m also really interested in meeting Sarah Wells in person.

Closing Comments

So yeah, an exciting week ahead! I’ll be sure to blog about topics I find interesting and update you all on how the event went.

Hopefully there will be some freebies and tech goodies given away during the event, if there is then I’ll be sure to take advantage of them :D
